Khakiweed, also known as mat chafflower, is a low-growing perennial broadleaf weed that forms dense, flat mats. It has small, thick leaves and produces hard, spiny seed structures that are painful to step on. It spreads by seed and a deep taproot and is commonly found in compacted soil, athletic fields, roadsides, and thin turf. This is a perennial weed. Pre-emergent herbicides do not control existing perennial weeds.
