What Is It?

Clover is a low-growing broadleaf legume with three rounded leaflets, often marked with a pale crescent. It spreads by seed and, in perennial species, by creeping stems. Clover commonly appears in thin turf and low-nitrogen soils. This weed can behave as both an annual and a perennial. Pre-emergent herbicides may reduce new seedlings but will not control existing plants.
